In 2021, the Gulf Wind site upgraded its technology with 118 Siemens Gamesa turbines to capture more wind energy per turbine, increasing production and reducing the cost of electricity.
The 271 MW facility sells its electricity generation, equal to the annual needs of ~90,000 Texans, to Austin Energy under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
The facility will contribute approximately $90 million to the local economy through tax and landowner payments over its first 25 years of operations.
The Kenedy Memorial Foundation, owner of the Kenedy Ranch that hosts Gulf Wind, uses the lease payments to support its mission to fight poverty, increase education, and build stronger communities.
