Gulf Wind

Kenedy County, Texas

Gulf Wind is one of the first wind facilities along the Texas coast. It began capturing the gulf coast breeze in 2009 to produce power during the times of the day and year when Texas needs it most.

01 /
  • In 2021, the Gulf Wind site upgraded its technology with 118 Siemens Gamesa turbines to capture more wind energy per turbine, increasing production and reducing the cost of electricity.

  • The 271 MW facility sells its electricity generation, equal to the annual needs of ~90,000 Texans, to Austin Energy under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

  • The facility will contribute approximately $90 million to the local economy through tax and landowner payments over its first 25 years of operations.

  • The Kenedy Memorial Foundation, owner of the Kenedy Ranch that hosts Gulf Wind, uses the lease payments to support its mission to fight poverty, increase education, and build stronger communities.

Gulf Wind is proud to give back to the community by sponsoring organizations, programs, and events, including Kingsville ISD, youth sports teams, Boys and Girls Club, and the Junior Livestock Show.
