Louisiana Forestry Association holds 76th Annual Meeting

December 1, 2023

Fast forward 70 years, and 48% of Louisiana’s state lands are forests grown back to replenish Louisiana’s over-cut areas.

Forestry is the state’s second largest manufacturing employer in Louisiana, which demonstrates the success of the LFA executing on their mission.

The Louisiana Forestry Association held its 76th Annual Meeting at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Lake Charles, Louisiana, in late August.

A statewide, private nonprofit association with approximately 5,000 members, the Louisiana Forestry Association was formed in 1947. Their mission is to “be an advocate for the sustainable growing, harvesting and manufacturing of Louisiana’s forests and for the people whose livelihoods depend on these forest resources.”

Members run the gamut from landowners, foresters, employees of forest products industries, wood suppliers, loggers and other related industries.

The LFA was formed from a need to ensure the state’s forest resources would not be exhausted by over-cutting and under-planting. In the 70 years since the organization’s founding, 48% of the area of Louisiana’s state lands have been reforested.

Forestry is the second-largest manufacturing employer in Louisiana, which demonstrates the success of the LFA executing on their mission.

The LFA holds their annual meeting to gather industry leaders, experts and other people from around the state with an interest in the health and longevity of Louisiana’s forests. Networking and forging long term connections benefits the entire industry, the state, and the future of Louisiana’s forests.
