For the first time in 15 years, Louisiana Ducks Unlimited held their state convention in the north of the state in Shreveport. Pattern Energy’s Southern Spirit Transmission is pleased to have been among the event’s sponsors.
Ducks Unlimited is a 501(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is to promote the convservation, restoration, and management of North America’s wetlands and waterfowl habitats for the benefit of both wildlife and people.
Launched in 1937 by a group of sportsmen interested in promoting habitat conservation, Ducks Unlimited has grown into an influential leader in protecting the natural homes of waterfowl across the country. The event in Shreveport brought together hunters, scientists, volunteers, and more to explore solutions to Lousiana’s conservation challenges.
“It’s been fifteen years since we’ve held a state convention in North Louisiana, and it’s the first time ever in Shreveport,” said Tommy Jackson, the Ducks Unlimited regional director for North Louisiana.
Along with meaningful conservations about habitat conservation, the event featured unique experiences, like the Road Kill Cookout.
“Our road kill cookout is our most popular event,” Jackson said. “We have local chapters all over the state, and you wouldn’t believe the recipes people come up with for things like raccoon.”
Jackson went on to say the big event of the convention is their gala, which brings together over 200 people.
“We give out our awards, recognize people and all the chapters are together. It’s a great event.”
