Grand Renewable Wind is a 149 MW project located in Haldimand County, Ontario. The facility consists of 67 2.3 MW Siemens turbines. Grand Renewable is a joint venture with shared development and financing responsibilities between Pattern Energy together with a subsidiary of Samsung Renewable Energy, Inc. and the Six Nations of Grand River.
The Grand Renewable project began construction in September 2013 and commenced commercial operations in December 2014. Construction was performed by Samsung C&T Canada (SENC). Local subcontractors were involved in various aspects of project construction, including building the access roads, installing foundations and erecting the turbine towers.
Siemens’ facility in Tillsonburg manufactured turbine blades for the project and CS Wind’s factory in Windsor utilized Ontario-made steel to manufacture the turbine towers.
The project sells 100% of its electrical output under a 20-year power purchase agreement with Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO). Grand Renewable connects to the Hydro One Networks, Inc. N5N 230 kV transmission line.
The Grand Renewable project is located on approximately 80 distinct private land parcels and has entered into long-term lease agreements with the landowners.
