Laurie Bunker is the owner of the Raton Pass Motor Inn, and she’s looking to make a change, so she’s selling what has become a special place in northern New Mexico.

“I’m originally from Tucson, and then I spent thirty two years in Florida, because life will do that to you,” Laurie said with a chuckle.

A little over 10 ten miles from the southern border of Colorado, Raton fit the bill when Laurie moved back west. “When I was able to extract myself from Florida, my partner and I wanted to move out West, and we settled on New Mexico- it is beautiful here and New Mexico has so many great places.”

Of her visitors at the Motor Inn, Laurie loves them all. “We get so many kinds of fun people coming through,” said Laurie. We’re right off I-25, and a good stopping point between Denver and Albuquerque. We’ve also got Amtrak, which brings through all sorts of different people.”

“Sometimes we shoot pinups in the rooms,” Laurie said, and added, “but the pinups are not included in the rooms.”

Laurie considers herself lucky that so many of the travelers coming through the Motor Inn have become friends.

“We’ve taken a lot of pride in our rooms, and people really appreciate it. We get people here from all over the world, and it’s been a lot of fun”

If you’d like to hear more, Laurie and I jumped on Zoom to have a chat.
