Meet Tim Baca, one of the steady forces helping guide SunZia from construction into full operations. As Assistant Facility Manager, Tim supports the day-to-day coordination that will keep turbines spinning, teams aligned, and people growing. For Tim, success is not just about reliable operations, but about investing in the technicians who make those operations possible.
Supporting the shift to operations
At SunZia, Tim Baca plays a critical role in keeping everything running smoothly as the project transitions from construction into operations. As Assistant Facility Manager for SunZia Wind North, he works closely with the Facility Manager to support technicians, manage reporting, troubleshoot turbine issues, and make sure information flows clearly across the site.

His days are spent checking in with technicians, helping solve problems as they arise, and keeping operations on track so the team can focus on safe, reliable performance. “It’s about making sure all the pieces are moving together,” Tim says. “When everyone knows what’s going on and has what they need, the whole site runs better.”
While the work requires constant coordination and attention to detail, Tim sees his role as a support system for both the equipment and the people. As SunZia grows into long-term operations, he helps ensure that systems are solid, expectations are clear, and the team is set up for success.
Growing people, not just projects
The most meaningful part of Tim’s work is the opportunity to help develop early-career technicians. From professional growth to leadership skills and career readiness, mentoring is at the center of how he approaches his role.
“I really enjoy helping technicians grow,” he says. “Seeing someone build confidence, take on more responsibility, and move forward in their career is incredibly rewarding.”
Tim takes pride in leading by example, offering guidance, and creating space for technicians to learn and advance. He sees technician development as essential to long term success, not just for the project, but for the people who power it every day.
Rooted in New Mexico
Born and raised in Santa Rosa, Tim has deep ties to New Mexico. Today, he lives in Moriarty with his wife Lauren and their dog, Deacon, staying close to the communities that shaped him.
Before joining Pattern Energy, Tim noticed the company’s presence long before he ever filled out an application. He saw Pattern showing up at local events, barbecues, fairs, and community gatherings. That visibility mattered.
“They were already invested in the community,” he says. “That told me a lot about who they were as a company.”
Now on the inside, Tim says what stands out most about Pattern is how the company treats its employees. “You’re not just a number here,” he explains. “They genuinely care about their people, and you can feel that every day.”
Chasing storms and capturing the outdoors
Outside of work, Tim and Lauren share a deep passion for photography and the outdoors. For Tim, photography is both a creative outlet and a reason to be outside, whether he is storm chasing across the Southwest or kayaking down a river in search of the perfect landscape shot.
“Photography gives me so many ways to be outdoors,” he says. “It lets me combine my love for nature with creativity.”

That passion recently earned statewide recognition when Tim and Lauren won the New Mexico Magazine 25th Annual Photo Awards Grand Prize, and Tim won first place in Landscapes, for their striking image of a storm cell over New Mexico. The win reflects their shared love of chasing weather, capturing powerful moments, and celebrating the beauty of the state they call home.
From mentoring technicians at SunZia to chasing storms across the landscape, Tim brings the same dedication to everything he does. It is that commitment to people, place, and growth that makes him a vital part of the People of Pattern.
