Broughton Wind Project: Highlights from the Open House and Upcoming Events

Pattern Canada

March 31, 2026

Ville, Quebec, March 31, 2026 – Broughton Wind is planned to be developed on private lands within the municipalities of  Saint‑Pierre‑de‑Broughton, Sacré‑Cœur‑de‑Jésus, and Thetford Mines. Several environmental approvals are required before the start of clearing work for the project begins, scheduled for fall 2027.

The Broughton Wind project team is currently working to respond to an initial series of questions and requests for clarification submitted by the Ministry of the Environment, the Fight Against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks. Engineering studies will also continue throughout 2026 to clarify some technical aspects of the project configuration, which calls for the installation of 25 to 29 wind turbines, depending on the selected model.

Broughton Wind: Positive Feedback from the Local Community

Another important milestone was reached in early 2026 with the third public information and consultation session, held on February 4, 2026, at the Saint‑Pierre‑de‑Broughton Church. Approximately 200 people attended the event.

The Broughton Wind team(Pattern Renewable Holdings Canada 2 ULC, the MRC des Appalaches, the MRC de L’Érable, and the Councils of the Abenaki of Odanak and Wôlinak) commend the strong participation and interest shown by residents of Saint‑Pierre‑de‑Broughton, Sacré‑Cœur‑de‑Jésus, and Thetford Mines during this public information and consultation session.

“At Pattern Canada, community input plays a central role in shaping sustainable projects that align with existing land uses. Feedback from local residents helps us refine our approach and ensure the project reflects community expectations and priorities,” said William Shemie, Director of Development for Pattern Canada’s Canadian market.

A Space for Dialogue and Information

The community meeting gave residents a chance to connect directly with the project’s development and community relations team. Attendees were able to learn more about the project’s progress, its potential impacts, planned environmental protection measures, and the expected economic and social benefits.

Participants could also explore a series of informational panels, which are still available online for public viewing:

Key Highlights

The session led to constructive discussions on several topics, including turbine siting and visual impact, detailed constraint mapping, and updates on both direct and indirect economic benefits. Overall, the project was well received by the community and is seen as a positive initiative that will support growing electricity demand, advance clean energy goals, and create local jobs.

Le Connectif des sommets, an energy organization representing local communities, also participated in the February 4 event. The group works to secure meaningful benefits from potential wind projects across the MRC des Appalaches, MRC de L’Érable, and MRC de Lotbinière. At the event, it collaborated with the Broughton Wind Farm team, helped oversee the consultation process, and ensured that the perspectives of affected communities were acknowledged and respected.
