I am still relatively new in New Mexico. I moved to our beautiful state a year and a half ago; this is my second Autumn living in New Mexico.
Being from the (flat) midwest, I am constantly in awe of the beauty here; even living in the city of Albuquerque, the Sandias are always there, always stunning, and majestic.
Now that the heat of summer has broken, the autumn colors of New Mexico are blazing in a dramatic, gorgeous way. The sun is setting a little earlier, the mornings have a chill in the air, and the outdoors are beckoning!
I have been exploring hiking trails close to Albuquerque (plus a few in the city proper,) and I cannot believe how lucky we all are to live in such a unique, magical place.
To really appreciate the changing colors, I’ve included photos here from several of my hikes over the last couple weeks, and I can’t get over how amazing everything looks, and I took the photos!
I’ve been hiking in the Sandia foothills, the Bosque along the Rio Grande and the Cibola National Forest connected to the foothills. Every time I go out, I see something new I haven’t seen before, or the light hits in a different way than I am used to, and it is jaw dropping.
Take the view I posted from I-25 of the sunset- that was when I was driving on I-25, looked out the window and had to pull over. Every time I think I’ve seen a truly amazing sunset in New Mexico, there’s a new one that blows away the old one.
