Post Rock Wind is located in Ellsworth and Lincoln Counties, Kansas. Pattern Energy acquired the fully operational facility from Wind Capital Group in 2015.
Post Rock Wind sits upon 23,000 acres of farm and ranch land. Over the first 20 years of operations the facility is expected to contribute more than $10 million in local tax payments that will benefit the residents of Ellsworth, Lincoln, and Rice Counties. We are actively looking for new local causes to support. Our areas of giving include community events, health and wellness, youth and education, economic development, environmental causes, and cultural awareness.
During project construction, an average of 150 construction workers were on site. Construction activities engaged subcontractors and suppliers from across the local region. Currently, 12 full-time personnel operate and maintain the facility, along with contractors who assist with various site maintenance activities.
We have a strong commitment to promoting environmental stewardship and bringing clean energy to the community. Post Rock Wind generates electricity equal to the needs of 75,000 Kansas homes each year with significant offsets in CO2 emissions, and conservation of water.
The installed capacity of the facility is 201 MW, using 134 American-made General Electric turbines. The facility reached commercial operations in 2012 and the clean energy is purchased by Westar Energy, Inc. under a long-term power purchase agreement.
